Fifpro has accused FIFA of undermining player welfare issues by consulting with 'bogus' unions.

The World Players' Union, Fifpro, said the governing body is "setting up FIFA-friendly organizations for consultative processes, instead of the recognized football representative bodies."

It accused FIFA of "using similar strategies with agents and fans", which it said is "a worrying pattern."

FIFA announced several measures on player welfare at a meeting in Rabat, Morocco, over the weekend.

Fifpro, which represents 66,000 players worldwide, was not invited.

BBC Sport has approached FIFA for comment.

Player welfare is an increasing concern, with Fifpro launching legal action against FIFA last month, saying the football calendar is so packed that player health is at risk.

Last year, Manchester City midfielder Rodri said players were on the verge of striking over the number of games being played. He then suffered a season-ending knee injury the following week.

FIFA said representatives from 30 national players' unions and members of its Player Advisory Panel, a consultative group made up of former players, attended the meeting.

Initiatives announced by FIFA included the creation of a Professional Players Advisory Forum and support for measures to improve player rest and recovery, such as a minimum of 72 hours rest between matches and at least 21 days between seasons.

"We remain committed to improving player welfare and working conditions worldwide, by implementing specific and meaningful measures to improve football for the future," FIFA president Gianni Infantino said after the meeting.

FIFA said it would establish a player welfare fund, but Fifpro said it and FIFA had established such a fund in 2022 before FIFA dissolved it.

The Rabat meeting followed a similar meeting on player welfare in New York in July, which Fifpro was not invited to.

That meeting was held the day before the final of the football World Cup, a tournament FIFA has expanded from 32 to 48 teams.
