How many Liverpool players can you fit in your team this week?

The Reds have won their last two, have a red-hot striker in Hugo Ekitik, and are facing a Wolves team that is set to have the worst season in the Premier League.

If you've kept some African Cup of Nations free transfers in hand – and if you have the money to spend on finding a replacement for Bruno Fernandes – then Liverpool players should be your top priority.

The team for the week has been selected based on the current FPL prices to fit a £100m budget, as if you were playing a Free Hit.

Don't miss our FPL special Q&A with expert Praan, which is live on the BBC Sport website at 16:30 GMT on 26 December.

How did the team fare last week?

Captain Erling Haaland (32 points) and the in-form duo of Antoine Semenyo (10) and Hugo Ekitik (10) brought the team 82 points – plus a 10-point bonus from substitute Antoné Robertson.

BBC Sport's team for the 18th game week

Goalkeeper and defence

David Raya, Arsenal, goalkeeper, £6m – Bristol (H)

Arsenal's defence has had a few wobbles since Gabriel's injury, but they've kept two clean sheets in their last four and have played nine already with less than half the season gone.

The team has only conceded three clean sheets at home from all their games this season, apart from one. Those goals came from Erling Haaland, a stunning half-volley from Richarlison and an unexpected late header from Tolu Ekunade, who is usually at the sharp end.

Jurgen Tierney (£6.5m) and Pierre Hincapie (£5.5m), Arsenal – Bristol (H)

This is Arsenal's triple-choice in defence this week.

As the best defence in the game, with clean sheets in more than half their matches, they are up against a Bristol team that has failed to score in their last two games.

The Seagulls have only scored eight goals in eight away games.

Tierney has been a solid choice every week and now that he is back at right-back, he has more attacking potential.

Hincapie has picked up defensive contribution points (defcon) in his last four starts, including two clean sheets.

Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool, £5.9m – Wolves (H)

I could fit six Liverpool players in.

Wolves have failed to score in 17 of their last 20 games, losing 2-0 at home to Brentford last Saturday.

They have scored only nine goals in the season, including two on the road. That's the safest clean sheet you could hope for.

Omar Alderete, Sunderland, £4m – Leeds (H)

Despite Leeds' recent goal surge – and Dominik Szalai's form – I'm trusting Sunderland's clean sheet at home.

This will be their third in a row and Alderete is shaping up to be the best budget defence pick. You can start him confidently in most games, with his defcon potential.

Midfield

Mason Mount, Manchester United, £5.9m – Newcastle (H)

Mount will play a big part in Manchester United's next few games, with Bruno Fernandes injured.

United have had the most expected goals (xG) in the league in the last three games by more than three, 8.78 compared to Leeds' 5.68.

They are up against a Newcastle team that is not doing well – with only one win from seven.

Mount is likely to take on Bruno Fernandes' creative responsibilities, especially on penalties, and may play as a 10.

Florent Virts, Liverpool, £8.1m – Wolves (H)

Virts is on the cusp of a haul and a home game against Wolves is the best time for it.

He has picked up three returns in his last four games – two assists and one defcon performance.

During that time, he has created ten chances, the most of any Liverpool player, and his xG is 0.88.

Morgan Rogers, Aston Villa, £7.2m – Chelsea (A)

With 30 points in two games, Rogers' form cannot be ignored.

He is Villa's talisman, capable of scoring from half a yard out.

Away to Chelsea might look tough, but Villa have won there twice in the last three seasons.

Forwards

Hugo Ekitik (captain), Liverpool, £8.9m – Wolves (H)

As he faces a woeful Wolves team, has no competition for a starting place, and has scored five goals in three games, Ekitik gets the captain's arm this week.

Erling Haaland, Manchester City, £15.1m – Nottingham Forest (A)

Haaland cannot be overlooked, but with a tougher away game this week, I'm prepared to play without a captain.

Jaro Bowen, West Ham, £7.6m – Fulham (H)

Bowen has not been a fashionable choice this season after his move from midfield to striker, but five goals and two assists have been enough to make him the fourth-highest points scorer among forwards.

Fulham are missing defender Calum Bassae due to the Africa Cup of Nations and are ripe for attack.

Subs' bench

Martin Dubravka, Burnley, £4m – Everton (H)

Tijani Reinders, Manchester City, £5.2m – Nottingham Forest (A)

Michael Keane, Everton, £4.6m – Burnley (H)

Anton Stach, Leeds, £4.8m – Sunderland (H)

Team total cost: £99.6m
