This really isn't a fun season if you're a Wolves fan. They haven't won a league game this season, haven't scored a point since October, and haven't scored a goal in their last five. The only Wolves player to score since the start of November was Jerson Mussera - and that was an own goal in a 3-0 loss at Fulham. It's the first season since 1983-84 that Wolves haven't won any of their first 14 league games, and their current five-game goal drought is the longest since they entered the Premier League in 2003. After Wednesday's home defeat to Nottingham Forest, Wolves have just two points from 14 games this season, the lowest in any top-flight. If Wolves lose their next league game against Manchester United on Monday, it will be their eighth consecutive league defeat, equalling their worst run - set in 1981-82 - and guaranteeing they will be bottom at Christmas. And if they fail to get points from their next two festive fixtures - away to Arsenal and at home to Brentford - Wolves will match Sheffield United's Premier League record for the fewest points on Christmas Day (two, 2020-21). Scoring is hard, perhaps unsurprisingly, given that two of their top three scorers from last season - Matheus Cunha and Ryan Allsion-Nunn - have left, and the third - Jorgen Strand Larsen - is struggling for form and fitness. But there are three teams in the Premier League with a lower total expected goals (xG) score than Wolves' 12.74 this season. But those three teams all have a higher xG difference than Wolves (-5.74) - having scored only seven times. The result is that Wolves are the first team to enter December with no player having scored more than one league goal. Any hopes of a bounce under new manager Rob Edwards have been quickly dashed - he has yet to see Wolves score, let alone earn a point or win. He has only been in charge for three games, having come in from Middlesbrough, but Edwards already looks like he is accepting that Wolves' campaign is lost and that his players are only playing for pride. "When I came in, it looked desperate," he said after the Forest defeat - their 14th league loss in 14. "We can't influence what happens elsewhere. We can only influence what we can do - but we didn't do our job tonight. We don't want to go out like that. "That will be the message moving forward - we don't want to go out like that." It's a message his players need to heed, or some unwelcome records may appear - including Derby's infamous 2007-08 campaign. Rams were relegated by 11 points, with the worst season in the history of a top-five European league. Derby averaged just 0.29 points per game across their full 38-game campaign. While we're a third of the way through this season, Wolves are currently averaging just 0.14 points per game. If they continue at that rate, they would only accrue five points across 38 games.
